Designed to reflect the Port City’s historic character, this building is the result of a unique construction method for its steel-clad timber skeleton. With a scarcity of suitable timber at the time, the ICS team sourced local sustainably-grown LVL beams as integral parts of the mass-engineered portal frame, purlins and girt structure.

Our skilled team of carpenters created the timber portals in the ICS workshop with the assistance of a unique chain plunge mortiser imported from Germany. The finished product was then transported to site and erected in ONE day, allowing for the remaining construction and fit out works to begin earlier than would be expected using other construction methods.

Considered the first build of its kind in WA, Jetty Bar & Eats is a single storey, 120 person venue featuring an impressive 10 metre-long bar and an outdoor alfresco dining area focused solely on the sparkling Swan River.

While the natural timber employed throughout the fit out is allowed its freedom to dominate with its warm tones, the bright open spaces are enhanced with elements such as custom fibreglass lights, softening the industrial weight of large stainless steel clad bars, aluminium-framed bi fold and louvred glazing, galvanised mesh ceiling features, and stainless steel countertops. Other features of this inspired build include a full commercial kitchen and a mezzanine office over the amenities, making effective use of available space.

Challenges surrounding new waste management services due to the riverside site location were overcome with excellent communication and coordination with Government authorities and Environmental Management was strictly enforced.

With its deep profile heritage galvanised cladding and industrial-style façade, this award-winning project sits beautifully within the existing port environment.
